Although I did my self-taught learning over time, it was thanks to the Kino de Québec movement that I revealed myself to others and that I found this assurance to continue, to surpass myself and even to collaborate with other filmmakers. And this is the reason why we find the word kinoïte at the end of my initials in order to never forget where I was born, cinematographically speaking.
Since its creation in 1999 in Montreal, the Kino movement has not just been content with creating a concept, an ideology and a motto (Doing well with nothing, doing better with little, but doing it now), it has been able to evolve offering novelties to its community.
Indeed, the Kino experience has developed a lot outside the monthly screenings with the creation of Kabarets (laboratories for collective cinematographic creation), Galas and special projects such as the Kino scenario, the Kino Macro and most recently the Kino Mentoring in Montreal.
Regardless of their profile, professional or amateur, people who join this movement see it as an opportunity to bring various types of creations through freedom of expression, artistic freedom, diversity and for some, committed cinema.
Do not hesitate to consult Planet Kino or the list of cells on Wikipedia to see the extent of the impact that the organization has had worldwide.
Since 2009, the nomadic organization Kinomada has developed a more international concept: Traveling the world to create laboratories for the creation of short films, which invites exchanges and intercultural mutual aid.
In my opinion, and you may disagree, the Wapikoni organization, which was created in 2004, should be part of the family, even if the traveling studios are for First Nations youth. Just go and see their collection of short films on their site to see the diversity of talent there!
This movement allows you to come out of your isolation, to exchange with other creative people like you.
And if you are the shy type, do like me, start by going to see a monthly screening to see if it suits you and in the worst case, you will have had the pleasure of seeing a different cinema!
